What You Can Do to Support CeCe
On May 2nd, CeCe accepted a plea agreement to a reduced charge of manslaughter in the second degree. CeCe’s case didn’t go to trial, but there are still plenty of ways to support her.
- If you’re in the Twin Cities, pack the courtroom for the sentencing on June 4th. Show the County Attorney, the judge, the prosecution, and the media that CeCe’s supporters are still watching and still fighting for justice for CeCe.
- Write CeCe a letter! Even better, organize a letter-writing party! Click here for CeCe’s mailing address and mailing guidelines. After CeCe’s sentencing, she’ll be transferred to a different facility, so be sure to check back for her updated address. (Please don’t send CeCe any books between now and June 4th: she won’t be able to bring them with her when she’s transferred to prison. But check back after sentencing for an updated book request list and mailing guidelines.)
- Watch for media coverage of CeCe’s case. Share and write positive comments when journalists cover CeCe’s case accurately, use non-transphobic language, and give the broader context for her case. If reporters write sensationalizing stories, use offensive language, or demonstrate clear bias, make sure to write comments and letters to the editor with your concerns.
- Donate to CeCe’s support fund. Going to prison is expensive. Money donated to this fund will be used to pay for CeCe’s family and friends to visit her in prison, phone bills, commissary, and living expenses for CeCe upon her release.
