May 1: Critical Trans Politics and the Limits of Law
Attorney, trans activist and founder of the Sylvia Rivera Law Project, Dean Spade, will be speaking at Macalester College on Tuesday, May 1st. His presentation, “Critical Trans Politics and the Limits of Law,” will be held in the John B. Davis Hall of the Campus Center, and will begin at 6:00 pm. There will be a reception outside the lecture hall beginning at 5:30. This presentation is free and open to the public!
Spade’s discussion will focus on US legal and administrative structures, and the tremendous violence these seemingly “neutral” structures enact on trans and gender nonconforming people. Spade asks us to think beyond mere legal inclusion, envisioning instead a critical trans liberation framework which is one of collective struggle and distributive justice.
Bring friends, family and your community along to this very important and timely discussion.
